Shane Show – An Old Friend

My very stylish and wonderful boyfriend has kindly agreed to do a semi regular section on this blog which we have decided to call Shane Show.   I hope you enjoy the post as much I did and please comment, I know that he would love to hear from all of you.  So without further ado – Shane Show

Tucked away in the recesses of your closet is that one shirt, that one pair of pants, that one garment that brings a little smile to your face every time your glimpse its existence. It no longer holds its shape it has been through the wash so many times, it no longer fits you, it hardly resembles its former self when you first purchased it, but no matter how many times it is pulled out of the closet during spring cleaning you lovingly check it for damage and carefully place it back in its rightful place in your wardrobe.

Fashion, as I have recently come to realise, is not necessarily the latest catwalk sensation nor the latest gaudy trend. Fashion is about the core reason for its very existence; it is the garment you just can’t part with. The garment that once worn allows you the freedom to walk with confidence and pride knowing that you have been given the opportunity to be ‘you’, to express your inner self in an outward way.

Meandering though shopping plazas and boutiques looking for a new winter sweater I find my attention being caught by a possible new addition but something about it just doesn’t ‘feel’ right. I walk on and before I know it am heading home ready to face another day cold without a sweater to warm me up. My attention was caught for a reason, but to an untrained mind such as mine I don’t understand why. It is only when shopping with Lenya my mind is emancipated and I learn what it is.

The collar was perfect, the colour was perfect, the fabric was perfect but not all at the same time and I have no idea where to go to get all aspects in one sweater. Lenya however proves her wealth of knowledge picking out several stores I did not know existed and pulls several sweaters for me to try. At first glance some of these seem a little out of my comfort zone, I have not worn anything like that before so how could I now? I try the sweaters on one by one and soon realise that Lenya has evolved my fashion sensibility and helped me discover something new and exciting. I have stepped out of my comfort zone, I have tried something I otherwise would not have given a second glance and I love it, it’s a brand new ‘old friend’. I have never worn the colour before, I have never worn the brand before and I have never felt so comfortable about it before. She knowingly smiles at me seeing the look on my face that this is ‘the sweater for me’.

This is a glimpse into what it is like to date a fashion stylist from a purely fashion based perspective. It is refreshing to the soul, invigorating to the mind and inspiring to the possibility of new and exciting adventures in life. It is a further connection that transcends the usual relationship connections as you realise that the person you are with understands exactly how to make you walk with confidence and a vigour that you have not before.

A Good Mix

Take some Armani, throw in a little Zambesi and then some Wang and what do you get . . . A great outfit.

On the weekend I wore my Armani leopard print coat with my Zambesi leggings and it was such a warm and comfy combo that I decided to wear it again but for work.  So with a few modifications, change of top, shoes and handbag I was ready to head out the door.

My love affair with Alexander Wang continues with my new baby.  I know I’m late to jump on the Rocco bandwagon, a number of fabulous bloggers, most notably Natalie from Fashion Intel, already have different versions of this amazing bag.  But it wasn’t until this baby, with the black studs instead of the gold ones, became available for half price on Shopbop.com that I felt the extreme urge to have one too.

Again I have to thank my fantastic boyfriend for this one, there were only two left and I almost vacillated for too long but he jumped in and ordered the last one.  Such a wonderful man.

Champagne Weekends

This weekend Shane whisked me away to the Hunter Valley for some wine, cheese and romance.   We stayed at the absolutely fantastic Chateau Elan.  This spa resort was soo lovely.  The staff were incredibly nice and everything from our amazing spa room to the beautiful grounds was amazing.  It was a lovely weekend.
