Black Swan

Wearing UnNaked Feather Shoulder Tee, Forever21 Feather Skirt and Master Slave Shoes

Last night was “Date Night”.  I kind of hate that term but in long term relationships, it ‘s necessary to have these kind of evenings.  Shane and I went to see Black Swan with Natalie Portman.  I saw it a few weeks ago with my bestie but it was soo amazing that I really needed to see it again.  The Story within the Story was incredible and Natalie Portman’s performance is truly Oscar worthy.

For this “special occasion” I decided to dress with the Black Swan theme in mind.  I purchased this feathered shoulder tee shirt last year from The Dirty Launderette which has now closed.  Thankfully you can still purchase UnNaked items from their website - http://www.getunnaked.com.  The skirt was the last purchase I made on my New York trip earlier this year.  My lovely brother gave me a gift voucher to Forever21 which I promptly used to purchase a few things before I left.  This Feather skirt is a perfect match with my tee for my Black Swan theme.  The only thing I’m missing is the Black Swan ring from Wendy Brandes that I wish I had.  You can purchase it here from her fantastic website.

If you haven’t seen the movie I suggest you rung out and see it now.  It is definitely an unforgettable experience.

Shane and I finally moved in together.  Am LOVING living in my new perfect apartment with my perfect man.

Shane Show – Ying & Yang

Dress pants, jeans,…  collared shirt, tee,… dress shoes, sneakers,…  what to wear for what occasion?  We’ve all been there at some point.

As the ‘Yang’ of Lenya, (‘Ying’) I recently found myself attending two red carpet premieres in one week with only one outfit for both.  Previously I may have simply said, “So be it.” but I was soon to realize why sometimes new is in fact quite important.  For the first premiere I wore black pants with a white AG dress shirt and silver, yes silver blazer/sport jacket. Everything went as expected and all in all we had a great evening out.  However, when the second premiere came round only a few days later I knew I could not possibly wear the same outfit and risk photographers getting the same snap only a few days apart.

Here in lies the talent and foresight of Lenya. On a previous day of shopping Lenya had me step out of my comfort zone and try on an AG black velvet smoking jacket and rather funky Master Slave dress shirt. Needless to say, they both made it to my closet along with a ‘safer’ grey AG jacket with black piping.

I now found myself walking the carpet hand in hand, ying and yang, wearing my velvet smoking jacket, Master Slave shirt and simple black pants and shoes.  As we approached the cameras the main cast were having group shots and to my disbelief I saw that one of the lead actors was wearing the exact same ‘safer’ option jacket I had bought.  A breath of relief passed my lips as I now understood that not only did I have to wear something new but also have that foresight to wear something that both looks great and no one else would likely be wearing.

With a knowing smile on our faces and not a word spoken, Lenya and I strolled through for a glass of champagne and relaxed into another wonderful evening all thanks Lenya’s styling prowess and talent.

On the mend

I’m finally feeling better and Shane and I decided to take a walk through Paddington and shop around in Bondi Junction.  A lot of walking to do in these shoes but my feet survived.  Along the way I was stopped so many times by people to ask about my shoes.

Spring is in the air but not quite here yet.  Can’t wait to break out the light dresses and sandals.  Reading all the American fashion blogs has got me jealous.

Last night I had the great pleasure of walking the red carpet and seeing Tomorrow, When the War Began.    I can truly say it restored my faith in Aussie film.  Great production, the crew should be really proud.  And a big thank you to Anthony for getting Shane and I our tickets.  It was soo good to hang out with you and your beautiful lady Joanna.  I also want to send a super special thank you to Carl and Weihan of Carl Kapp for lending me this fantastic dress.

Waterloo Wanderings

Yesterday Shane and I decided to wander around the suburb of Waterloo.  Waterloo is a relatively new development.

Google Maps - Dank Street, Waterloo, Sydney

In the last 5 years it has grown to be a hub for foodies with some amazing restaurants like Fratelli Fresh and the Dank Street Depot.

There are also some amazing art galleries there and of course wherever there is art, Shane and I like to wander around.

I don’t know how but we ended up at the Toys R Us in Moore Park where Shane took a picture on a horse.

We ended our perfect day wandering around the Sydney Antique Centre on South Dowling Street where I tried on the most ginormous pure aquamarine ring I’ve ever seen.

Such a fun day in such a great neighbourhood.

Frockstars

This past weekend Shane and I visited the Frockstars exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum.  I mentioned it here as an interesting thing to do that is indoors during this cold Sydney Winter.

I have to say it was a very cute exhibition.  More for the layman, who doesn’t work in the industry or has never been to a fashion show.  This is how the Powerhouse describes the exhibition:

The exhibition Frock stars takes you behind the scenes to Australian Fashion Week. Experience the shows, the set and the scene. Relax in the VIP lounge, watch footage from past and present collections, see some of the best outfits from the past 15 years, plus exclusive interviews with designers, models and industry insiders!

The exhibition ends soon so hurry on over to the Powerhouse and have it look.

Shane Show – An Old Friend

My very stylish and wonderful boyfriend has kindly agreed to do a semi regular section on this blog which we have decided to call Shane Show.   I hope you enjoy the post as much I did and please comment, I know that he would love to hear from all of you.  So without further ado – Shane Show

Tucked away in the recesses of your closet is that one shirt, that one pair of pants, that one garment that brings a little smile to your face every time your glimpse its existence. It no longer holds its shape it has been through the wash so many times, it no longer fits you, it hardly resembles its former self when you first purchased it, but no matter how many times it is pulled out of the closet during spring cleaning you lovingly check it for damage and carefully place it back in its rightful place in your wardrobe.

Fashion, as I have recently come to realise, is not necessarily the latest catwalk sensation nor the latest gaudy trend. Fashion is about the core reason for its very existence; it is the garment you just can’t part with. The garment that once worn allows you the freedom to walk with confidence and pride knowing that you have been given the opportunity to be ‘you’, to express your inner self in an outward way.

Meandering though shopping plazas and boutiques looking for a new winter sweater I find my attention being caught by a possible new addition but something about it just doesn’t ‘feel’ right. I walk on and before I know it am heading home ready to face another day cold without a sweater to warm me up. My attention was caught for a reason, but to an untrained mind such as mine I don’t understand why. It is only when shopping with Lenya my mind is emancipated and I learn what it is.

The collar was perfect, the colour was perfect, the fabric was perfect but not all at the same time and I have no idea where to go to get all aspects in one sweater. Lenya however proves her wealth of knowledge picking out several stores I did not know existed and pulls several sweaters for me to try. At first glance some of these seem a little out of my comfort zone, I have not worn anything like that before so how could I now? I try the sweaters on one by one and soon realise that Lenya has evolved my fashion sensibility and helped me discover something new and exciting. I have stepped out of my comfort zone, I have tried something I otherwise would not have given a second glance and I love it, it’s a brand new ‘old friend’. I have never worn the colour before, I have never worn the brand before and I have never felt so comfortable about it before. She knowingly smiles at me seeing the look on my face that this is ‘the sweater for me’.

This is a glimpse into what it is like to date a fashion stylist from a purely fashion based perspective. It is refreshing to the soul, invigorating to the mind and inspiring to the possibility of new and exciting adventures in life. It is a further connection that transcends the usual relationship connections as you realise that the person you are with understands exactly how to make you walk with confidence and a vigour that you have not before.

Champagne Weekends

This weekend Shane whisked me away to the Hunter Valley for some wine, cheese and romance.   We stayed at the absolutely fantastic Chateau Elan.  This spa resort was soo lovely.  The staff were incredibly nice and everything from our amazing spa room to the beautiful grounds was amazing.  It was a lovely weekend.

Zambesi Leggings

On Sunday while strolling through Paddington Shane and I decided to take a look in the Zambesi shop.  He knows how much I love this New Zealand label and I try to visit the store often to see what they have on offer.

We walked in and front and centre were these amazing leggings on a mannequin.

There is a back story, I’ve been dying for a pair of leather leggings all winter.  I have been searching and searching and the closest I could but wasn’t quite right were the AG skinny leather pants.

Once I was done gasping, the lovely Manager, Linda told us that not only were the pants the last one, they were drastically reduced.  Shane made me try them on.  The shocker was that even at an Aussie size 6, they fit me.  Shane being the most amazing boyfriend in the world, bought them for me.

This morning, though not as cold as last week, was still really cold.  I decided to wear my new leggings with a DVF tunic, and my Lila Verne shoe boots.

I think I’m in love with these leggings.  They are soooo cool.  I love that they are moleskin on the top half so the fit is amazing and I won’t get a saggy bum as you do when leather pants stretch out of shape.  Watch this space, more Zambesi to come.
