Fat Jeans & Stripes

Yesterday’s fashion adventure was a bit of a mish mash. I went to put on my skinny jeans only to realise that I’ve put on a few kilos and don’t fit them. YIKES! So I had to put on my fat jeans which is always a bummer. I don’t know what possessed me to put on stripes which of course is supposed to make you look fatter but I did. I was loving myself sick in the morning when I took these photos but am now thinking it was a big mistake. Oh well you can’t get it right everyday.

Using Inspiration

Today’s dressing adventure saw me looking to Ms Diabolina of My Super Sweet Fashion Diaryfor inspiration. She posted about her love of skinny jeans. I started thinking about wearing jeans today and then I saw all the lovely photos of the people that inspired her look and decided I’m going to do my own interpretation.

More Menswear and Stripes

Today’s dressing adventure started with me looking out the window and cursing the rain. I ran out to walk Mr Matey and by the time I got back the rain was starting to slow down. It was still chilly so I paired my striped tee and jeans with this fab blazer ST gave me. I ironed my little red scarf and folded into a pocket square and placed it in my breast pocket. I felt dandy.

Bad photo day – only one good one.

Jumpsuits, Statement Necklaces & Geisha Shoes

Today’s dressing adventure is all over the shop. I acquired this jumpsuit last week and have already worn it (didn’t have time last week to blog about it). I decided it had to make another appearance as I’m going to be running around Fashion Stylist style today. Now I have to say that it’s hard with a capital H to pair up a vertical black and white striped jumpsuit with anything, I mean anything. So I found for the second time that I was trying on loads of things to try to make this piece work. I finally decided on this combo, jumpsuit, statement necklace and Geisha shoes.

I just need to point out that it’s not always a good thing to take three big trends and put them all in one look but I’m branching out in 2009 and saying break the rules.

Menswear inspired

Today’s dressing adventured was inspired by the menswear shoot that I’m researching. I’ve read every men’s fashion magazine on the planet trying to get ideas for the shoot. I talked with a friend the other day who told me the “the ultimate menswear accessory is a good watch” so today’s dressing adventure saw me pulling this watch that I’ve had for AGES out of the draw. I love that it’s big and round. At the time that I purchased it I was trying to conceal my wrist tattoo from my employers and this watch did it very effectively with a touch of class.

I’m harry high pants today as well wearing high waisted pants that I purchased over 10 years ago at Ann Taylor. Funny how things come back in style. The only thing I wished I had was a pocket watch on a chain, that would have completed the look.

Lessons Learned

This morning I woke up and had an epiphany. I realised that for the last 2 months I haven’t once woke up with dread or thought about how much I hate work or what I can or can’t wear . I finally realised that I would rather wait tables to make extra money and do what I love instead of work a job that pays well but destroys my soul.

It’s funny how much a crappy work life can affect everything. My relationships suffered and my health suffered as well. But in the last couple of months, though I’ve been stressed about making the jump to freelance I still wouldn’t have it any other way.

Now that I’ve let you in on the best advice I have I can move on to my dressing adventure. The Blacktress is leaving Sydney. Very sad for me because she was a bit of home and I sorely need that sometimes. Tonight was her farewell and I wanted to go straight from my shift at Uturn to her drinks. Now the weather is funny again, sometimes hot and sometimes down right cold and today we can add it rain. So I paired this strapless dress with a singlet, tank top to the Americans, added a jacket and was ready to hit the streets. I’m wearing my Bottega Venetta copies. They are soooo high and I find that I walk funny in them but I like the way they looked an I knew I would be sitting down most of the night.

I think the silly photoshoots are here to stay.

Working

Today’s dressing adventure started out with the Sass & Bide dress and the spanx girdle thing. I really like the dress but really hate wearing this girdle thing, so the dress doesn’t get worn much. Today I paired the dress with my red Gary Castle sling backs and simple jewelry.

I spent the entire morning transferring my styling kit from an over the shoulder bag to a small suitcase. The kit keeps growing with more things that I find useful on location and the shoulder bag was beginning to hurt my shoulder. Getting all this organised didn’t leave me much time to get ready, or so I thought, but once ready I found that I had heaps of time to take more silly photos of myself.

Ahead of the trend

I love it when I see something I bought ages ago used as “the item of the moment” in a magazine that has just come out.

Check out this months Shop till you Drop’s Shop Reporter page. I own both the Diva necklace and the Siren Burberry copy shoes. And I believe I’ve already blogged about both months ago.

Just goes to prove that magazines really aren’t always ahead of the trend, you are better off following the blogs.

Getting Ready in 20 Minutes

Today’s dressing adventure started with DP ringing to say that he was early for our meeting. At this point I was still in my bathrobe playing on the Internet not even thinking about what to wear.

I jumped into the shower, threw on this outfit, did make up and hair and was ready to meet him in 20 minutes. Total record for me.

Day to night the freelance way

So glad to not work in an office anymore. I can wear what I want now no matter how outrageous. Tonight I have dinner for the lovely Tally and then on to another friends birthday drinks. A lot to do and no time to go home and change.
I was saving this fab vintage 1980s Karen Merkel dress for something, (I don’t know what) but decided this morning that I must wear it. No use in it just sitting in my closet when it’s so absolutely fabulous.
I was walking down the street and a woman stopped me and told me that I looked like I stepped out of the pages of Vogue – she couldn’t have paid me a better compliment. I’ve been beaming ever since.

It was another good picture day – choose 5.
