All That Glitters Is Not Necessarily Gold

My camera has finally died and I have to use the camera on my phone for now till I gather enough
money to buy the camera I really want.

Today I was feeling a bit glitzy girly. Wanted a bit of bows and sparkle. I had a bit of fashiony
running around to do and wanted to be a bit fierce.

Sorry in advance for the blurry photos.

Bridget Mac’s Exhibition Opening & the Tale of a Francis Dress

On Friday I had the extreme pleasure of attending with my Fashion Mentor an artistic photographic exhibition by Bridget Mac. It was an installation exhibition at the Oxford Art Factory and it was AMAZING. I loved the piece in the invite below. Fantastic.

About a month ago, the fabulous Wendy Brandes started a blog for Designer Christian Francis Roth – http://francisnewyork.com/blog/. After reading the blog I fell in love with the Francis V-Neck Star Dress and purchased it during a blogger special. Then Ms Wendy B blogged about his sample sale and on the invite was the most perfect Lenya dress I could ever imagine. I had to have it. And of course there was no better event than this to debut it. Behold my Francis one shoulder zig zag dress.

It was a wonderful night and as always with Sarah I met some great people. Can’t wait for next time and my next Francis dress.

Working at Uturn

When I do my shift at Uturn, I always feel like I should look a bit funky to match the shops eclectic mix of vintage and resale items. The boss like us to be a little alternative but that’s not really my style.
Today’s dressing adventure started with this top that I love and bought a while ago from Uturn. It’s a peasant top and reminds of that whole Russian Style thing that was happening a while ago. I also have missed my Jeffrey Campbell boots. They remind me of the Martin Margiela Cut Out boots that I wish I owned. How fabulous does Ms Sea of Shoes look in those super hot boots. Never mind, my Jeffrey Campbell ones are TDF and I love them.

Needing to get out of the house

This afternoon I realised that it was lunchtime and I was still in my bathrobe and Fed Ex was buzzing my door. Something had to be done. I couldn’t spend another day on the email and computer without seeing a little bit of the outside world.

Today’s dressing adventure saw me trying to find something warm and comfy to wear. The weather has turned to Autumn here in Sydney and one needs a jacket if they are going to venture outside. I also wanted to wear these fab boots that Solestruck.com so wonderfully sent me. They are BCBGirls and they are sooo hot. I can’t walk anywhere without someone stopping me to say how fab they are.

Pulled on the black True Religion jeans, a sweater (jumper to the Aussies) and this gorgeous hat that the BF bought me this weekend and off I went.

Bad picture day. Only 2 decent ones out of like 20. Not feeling glam when I have to force myself to get out of the house.

Lessons Learned

This morning I woke up and had an epiphany. I realised that for the last 2 months I haven’t once woke up with dread or thought about how much I hate work or what I can or can’t wear . I finally realised that I would rather wait tables to make extra money and do what I love instead of work a job that pays well but destroys my soul.

It’s funny how much a crappy work life can affect everything. My relationships suffered and my health suffered as well. But in the last couple of months, though I’ve been stressed about making the jump to freelance I still wouldn’t have it any other way.

Now that I’ve let you in on the best advice I have I can move on to my dressing adventure. The Blacktress is leaving Sydney. Very sad for me because she was a bit of home and I sorely need that sometimes. Tonight was her farewell and I wanted to go straight from my shift at Uturn to her drinks. Now the weather is funny again, sometimes hot and sometimes down right cold and today we can add it rain. So I paired this strapless dress with a singlet, tank top to the Americans, added a jacket and was ready to hit the streets. I’m wearing my Bottega Venetta copies. They are soooo high and I find that I walk funny in them but I like the way they looked an I knew I would be sitting down most of the night.

I think the silly photoshoots are here to stay.

More on Walking the dogs

Today I really really really wanted to sleep in but alas, I have two dogs who need to walk so it wasn’t going to happen. By the time I got back from the morning walk, all I wanted to do was crawl back in bed, which I did.

When I got up a couple of hours later, I decided a long walk into Paddo was just what both the dogs and I needed. Window shopping for me and more exercise for them. My dressing adventure started with my fab Jcrew sweater. Jcrew is getting so much press since the lovely Michelle Obama has made it fashionable. Don’t you just LOVE her style? I paired the sweater with my Ruby Denim jeans and my pink lace converse all stars. I threw a pink polka dot scarf on my neck and was good to go.

I think I like taking silly photos. Scary.

Bad weather, cancelled shoots and looking in shops

Today’s dressing adventure was a strange one. It is really rainy and dreary at the moment in Sydney. When I got up to walk the dogs I really had to rug up to stay warm. I was ment to be working today so got dressed in Stylist mode. Then the shoot I was working on got cancelled because of the pending rain. Since I was all dressed with no where to go my assistant SS and I decided to have a look at the shops to get some inspiration for a future shoot.

I try to go out and look at what’s in store at least once a week and check out all the windows and who is shopping where and for what. Just a tip for Sydney Siders – Sequin Leggings – both Cotton On and Supre have inexpensive versions.

We walked for ages but it was a very productive day and I’m happy with all the shots we took of clothes to inspire us. After having such a crap morning, it turned out to be a productive afternoon ending in the Lounge with a fab glass of Pinot Noir.
