Today Shane and I drove to Beverly Hill for some window shopping and cocktails with Los Angeles’ very own Lux Lady LA.
We started our day on Sunset Boulevard at Off Broadway shoes. Like I couldn’t believe how many shoes there were. I was almost overwhelmed with the number of shoes that were there. I never thought I would say such a thing.
Then after making an amazing purchase will I’ll photograph later, we made our way to Beverly Hills to catch up Ms Carin Von Berg of LuxLife . I haven’t been to a Neimans in a long time and I’ve never been to this one. In posh Beverly Hills you have a cute little bar with some great celebrity watching and even better wine and cocktails. It was so nice to catch up Ms Lux Lady LA.

Walked into Zara and nearly lost my mind. Zara opens up in Sydney next month but somehow I don’t expect they will get the same merchandise. LOVE my new clothes. (That second bag I packed is going to get a lot of use!)

As a few people know, Shane and I are getting ready to have a big adventure in the States in a few short weeks. This is Shane’s first trip to the states and he needed a few things.
I’ve been to Flight 001 in NYC and was super excited about them opening up in Australia. Of course I had to take Shane there to kit him out with all the best travel stuff.
Flight 001 from New York landed in Sydney, making it’s international debut. The shop’s decor is inspired by Pan Am Flight 001, the world’s first round-the-world flight. The shop is a great mix of modern and vintage 50′s 60′s design, designed to look and feel like a 747 jet. Here you can buy travel items from their own great line and from great international and Aussie designers. Flight 001 is located at Shop 6, 285A Crown Street, Surry Hills. Definitely check them out the next time you travel. You can also check them out online at - http://www.flight001.com.au/.

Yesterday while reading the Sydney Morning Herald online, I came across and interesting article by Ezra Klein entitled “In fashion copyright, the knock-off wins”. The article made a interesting point of saying the consumers will be the losers if the bill that is before the US Senate right now which wants to extend copyright protections to the Fashion Industry.
In basic terms it means, that you love the Alexander Wang Rocco bag (I mean who doesn’t) but you don’t want to pay a lot of money for your handbags so you go to Sportsgirl and buy their copy for a fraction of the cost. Under the legislation put forth by United States Senator Charles Schumer’s (if the legislation is also adopted by the Australian Government) the Sportsgirl imitation would be illegal. For the first three years only Alexander Wang would be able to profit from his designs.
But as Ezra Klein points our “what if copying is a good thing?” Are the knockoffs stealing profit from the original Designer.
As regular readers of this blog know, I have a good mix in my wardrobe of designer originals and designer knockoffs. A lot of my purchase decisions are made on the fact that I live in Australia and sometimes the only item available to me is the copy but a lot of the times I just don’t want to pay $700 US ($790 AUD) for a pair of shoes. So the $150 copy, or tribute as I like to say, is more palatable.
I also believe that Fast fashion retailers and designers are not competing for same target market. And Designers themselves are seeing that more people are shopping at discount retailers and are designing diffusion lines for them to keep their names in the market place and to expand their profit making ability.
Ezra Klein also accurately points out that creating knockoffs speeds up innovation because designers need to create new fresh designs to keep ahead of the fast fashion retailers.
Copyright laws more often than not are used to protect profits at the expense of the consumer. I’d love to hear your comments on this issue.

On Sunday while strolling through Paddington Shane and I decided to take a look in the Zambesi shop. He knows how much I love this New Zealand label and I try to visit the store often to see what they have on offer.
We walked in and front and centre were these amazing leggings on a mannequin.
There is a back story, I’ve been dying for a pair of leather leggings all winter. I have been searching and searching and the closest I could but wasn’t quite right were the AG skinny leather pants.
Once I was done gasping, the lovely Manager, Linda told us that not only were the pants the last one, they were drastically reduced. Shane made me try them on. The shocker was that even at an Aussie size 6, they fit me. Shane being the most amazing boyfriend in the world, bought them for me.
This morning, though not as cold as last week, was still really cold. I decided to wear my new leggings with a DVF tunic, and my Lila Verne shoe boots.
I think I’m in love with these leggings. They are soooo cool. I love that they are moleskin on the top half so the fit is amazing and I won’t get a saggy bum as you do when leather pants stretch out of shape. Watch this space, more Zambesi to come.

Today’s dressing adventure was a strange one. It is really rainy and dreary at the moment in Sydney. When I got up to walk the dogs I really had to rug up to stay warm. I was ment to be working today so got dressed in Stylist mode. Then the shoot I was working on got cancelled because of the pending rain. Since I was all dressed with no where to go my assistant SS and I decided to have a look at the shops to get some inspiration for a future shoot.
Dior bag, Steve Madden Purple Pumps, and Equestrian Hat
Dress (not sure of brand, label cut out), Mambo Western shirt, and Sharoon striped dress
Fabulous haul. Total cost – $120! Can’t beat that.

The other pair I put on lay by and will have in my hot little hands next week and of course will blog about it.
While on this shopping spree (of sorts), I decided to pop into Supre and have a look for some ruched leggings ala Kingdom of Style and Confessions of a Shoe Girl. Total score along with a cool jacket and a jersey loose fitting tank.
