BTS – Music Video Shoot

Yesterday I had the extreme pleasure of shooting part of a music video for up and coming recording artist Jarrod Sherman. We shot at a fantastic farm in Bowral.

Here are some photos, I will post a copy of the video as soon as it becomes available.

The rise and fall of the Stylist

Back in the day a stylist was strictly behind the scenes. You picked up a fashion magazine looked at the editorials, marvelled at the creativity and then went about your day.

Then the Street Style photographers came along and gave rise to the women who created those beautiful pages. Tommy Ton and Phil Oh photographed Carine Roitfeld, Anna Dello Russo, and Shala Monroque. All of a sudden their faces and amazing clothes were everywhere. Everyone was fascinated and wanted to be just like them.

Rachel Zoe began her Project and the “glamorous” job of celebrity styling became the new styling job to covet. People all over tried to become real Zoebots.

Correspondence schools started offering styling courses “you too can be a famous fashion stylist”. Never mind that there are some things a stylist can’t learn, they are inherent, you either have it or you don’t. Everyone who decided since fashion was their passion they were going to call themselves a stylist. They started blogs and made business cards. Basically glutted the market.

So where to go from here. As a stylist myself, I’ve become disheartened when I see what has happened to our beautiful art form. But it also makes me want work harder. Show people how it’s done. But now I really more than ever want to stay strictly behind the scenes. That means no more outfit posts. I will only post behind the scenes and new work. I will be posting less but I will be happier about the content.

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy my work.
